CLASSICAL NOVEMBER has become an annual tradition for the Alta motet choir. In collaboration with local and regional professional musicians, the choir invites you to a classical concert in the Northern Lights Cathedral in Alta while the autumn darkness descends outside.
This year, the choir has chosen musical treats from Haydn, Mozart, and Grieg’s rich production.
We also present two singing soloists. The mezzo-soprano Ann-Beth Solvang has studied at the University College in Stavanger and Oslo Opera Academy. She has been a soloist at the Staatsoper Hamburg, Bayerische Staatsoper München, Opéra de Bastille and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Oper Zürich, Den Norske Opera & Ballett, Teatr Wielki in Warsaw and Innsbrucker Festwochen – just to name a few.
Baritone singer Øyvind Lie Totland studies performing classical singing at the Barrat Due Music Institute in Oslo. He also sings in the Norwegian Youth Choir and Ensemble 69. Both Solvang and Lie are previous members of the Alta motet choir, so they are in many ways coming home this evening.
The soloists will perform their own pieces of music, both individually and as a duet. Together with the Alta motet choir they sing excerpts from Cavalleria rusticana.
Violinist Miriam Helms Ålien is the evening’s concertmaster. With her in the orchestra, she has the piano quartet Ensemble Noor with its regular cast, and Knut Erik Sundquist on double bass.
This will be a concert you don’t want to miss! A warm welcome!
